The anion exchange resins work in a similar way but for negatively charged ions. Although cobalt is mainly a cation, there could be some negatively charged cobalt – containing compounds in the water. The anion exchange resins grab these compounds and release hydroxide ions.
As the water passes through these resin beds, more and more of the remaining cobalt gets removed. The result is water that’s almost completely free of cobalt.
Now, let’s talk about some of the factors that can affect how well an RO DI system removes cobalt. One big thing is the quality of the membrane in the RO unit. A high – quality membrane with smaller pores is going to do a better job of blocking cobalt ions. We always make sure to use top – notch membranes in our systems.
The flow rate of the water also matters. If the water is flowing through the system too fast, the RO membrane and the DI resin beads don’t have enough time to do their job properly.
